First Baptist Church of Augusta, Georgia, is seeking an associate pastor who will implement the vision of the church while developing and shepherding our ten ministerial staff members. The ideal candidate will have a dedicated heart for Jesus Christ and the gospel and fully embody a servant leader.

Our Associate Pastor will:

  • Serve as the pastoral chief of staff to direct and synchronize the operations, calendar, and execution of the church’s services and functions;
  • Develop the senior pastor’s strategy and vision into a workable plan while distributing tasks across the ministerial staff in a collaborative team approach;
  • Oversee the spiritual formation of the congregation and ministerial staff by shepherding ministry groups and small group leaders and coordinating Bible studies and curriculum;
  • Provide pastoral care of the congregation as part of the ministerial team;
  • Eagerly engage with the congregation around worship services and church activities by serving as an enduring member of the greeting team and new/prospective member outreach team;
  • Serve as the primary ministerial advisor to key committees such as Leadership Advisory Council, Vision 2030, Personnel, and Bylaws and Standing Rules;
  • Collaborate with the church administrator and ministers to develop the proposed annual church budget;
  • Welcome with enthusiasm the opportunity to deliver 6-8 sermons each year as needed due to the senior pastor’s planned absences and obligations;
  • Utilize effective communication and interpersonal skills, including Biblical conflict resolution approaches;
  • Employ technology and social media skills to help develop an expanding online church presence and drive organizational efficiencies;
  • Have a minimum of five years of experience leading and developing a multi-faceted team;
  • Hold a Master of Divinity degree or equivalent.

First Baptist Church of Augusta, Georgia, is a historic church that has ministered to the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) for over 200 years. We are located at a primary intersection, nestled between downtown Augusta and the sprawling growth of Columbia County. Our combined contemporary and traditional worship attendance for 2022 through March of 2024 averaged 849 people (517 in person and 331 on-line), and our traditional service is televised as well. In addition to Sunday morning services and Sunday School, we have weekly Wednesday night dinner, Bible studies, and choir for ages preschool through adult.  A typical week at our church offers many opportunities to serve in ministries, such as our Benevolence Ministry and member-led Bible studies and prayer groups. An important part of our church’s identity is our much sought-after weekday education program that has connected us to surrounding communities for almost fifty years. Including our Senior Pastor and the Associate Pastor position, we employ a ministerial staff of 12 with a support staff of 15.  Our average annual budget for the past three years is $2,954,186.

The Greater Augusta Area is made up of 7 counties in Georgia and South Carolina located along the Savannah River with a population of 628,000.  In 2020, Money Magazine named Evans, Georgia, as the Best Place to Live in America.  Our diverse economy is made up of a large medical community with 11 hospitals anchored by Augusta University Research and Medical Centers.  Fort Eisenhower is located here and is home to the US Army Cyber Headquarters, NSA GA, and various other cyber/communication missions.  In addition, our region has a large and diverse group of manufacturing companies.  Also located here is the Savannah River Site in SC, home of the Savannah River National Lab.  Various recreational opportunities centered around Clarks Hill Lake, the Savannah River, and the Augusta Canal abound.
