The November Lunch and Learn will feature special guest speaker and author Millicent Flake.
Millicent holds degrees from Wake Forest University, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the University of West Georgia. She has worked as a youth minister, hospital chaplain, nursing home activity director and substitute teacher. She spent twenty years helping young people discover a love of books through her work as a school media specialist. Now retired, she keeps busy as a deacon and Adult Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church in Dalton, teaches writing classes at the local arts center, and enjoys spending time in her garden.
Millicent began writing a devotional blog called Under the Magnolia Tree in 2014. Since then, she has been published in Chicken Soup for the Soul, The Welcome Table Blog, and Refresh Bible Study Magazine and is a regular contributor to Dalton Living Magazine.
In her first book, Moving Beyond: Journeying Through Life’s Changes, she shares her personal experiences going through times of transition and explores how biblical characters faced the same challenges.
Millicent lives with her husband Keith and feral cat Walter in an old farmhouse in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Northwest Georgia. They have one son Adam, married to Jess Peckham, and a granddog Maisy.
