I woke up on Sunday morning and for the first time in months, I was nervous. Prior to COVID-19, I would get up early on Sunday morning and there was a feeling in my stomach. It was a feeling of nervous expectation. There was always an element of surprise and joy to Sunday morning. New people would always find their way through our doors. Friends I hadn’t seen in a few weeks would walk out the door and give me a hug. I got to preach to a big group of friends and guests! Sunday morning made me nervous in the best way possible.
But over the past few months, that feeling wasn’t there on Sunday morning. For a while, we didn’t meet in person at all on Sunday. Even when we did begin to meet on June 13th, I didn’t have that expectation that woke me up a few hours before the sun made its way above the trees. And then this week arrived! I had no idea what to expect for our first outdoor worship service. Would it be excellent? How many people would be there? Was it going to rain? There were a million questions running through my mind, and each of them involved the possibility for an experience that was good, true, and right.
I walked out of the front doors of our Sanctuary at 8:54 not knowing what I would see. The double doors swung open…and you were there! I can’t tell you how awesome it was to lay eyes on so many of my friends again in person. I didn’t know what to expect…and it was glorious! Outside of Easter Sunday morning, I think Sunday was one of my favorite Sundays since I have been the pastor of this church. I thought it was amazing. I hope that you thought so, too.
I am so glad that we are back together as a community, again. I want to make sure you know that we will have our outdoor service, EVERY SUNDAY at 9:00 am for the foreseeable future. A few people asked me when we were going to do another outdoor service. I was thrilled to be able to tell them, next Sunday! If you need more information or details about Sunday morning at FBC, just visit our website DiscoverFBC.org and you can learn more.
This week we are continuing our series “Finding Hope”, so I hope you will make plans to join us in person at 9:00 or 11:00. For those who are still not quite ready to come back out to worship, remember that you can worship with us digitally on our Facebook page or by going directly through our website. For our online services this week, I am preaching from a special location that I can’t wait for you to see! I am not going to spoil the fun, so make sure to check it out on Sunday morning.
Grace and Peace,
