If you were in worship this past Sunday, you heard Will make the announcement that our chef, Stephen Childress is retiring at the end of July after twenty years with First Baptist Church. And, that we would make an announcement this week about his replacement.
As promised, I am very pleased to present to you our new chef, Ray Burnette. Let me allow him to tell you more about himself:
Dear First Baptist:
Growing up in North Carolina I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. It ranged from a police officer to whatever was popular at the time. In 1994 I left NC and headed to New York City where I graduated at the top of my class from The Culinary Institute of America. Not long after that I was recruited to Augusta. In my 27 plus years in the food service business I have managed crews and companies ranging from hospitality to an award-winning private golf course. Food is truly my passion as I enjoy creating new dishes and being able to be creative in the kitchen.
My family gets to partake in my creations as they are my other passion. My 20-year-old daughter, Nina Burnette recently started working for Columbia County as a Communications Officer. My fiancee, Mary Jackson is a seasoned wedding and event planner who works full time at Shepeard Community Blood Center as their marketing and public relations manager. Our other 2 kids have fur and 4 legs – who also get to enjoy my creations at times. They will never tell me no when it comes to trying something new.
When I am not cooking my hobbies consist of hunting, fishing, attending UGA football games, visiting Hilton Head Island and relaxing with my family. I am honored and blessed to be a part of the First Baptist Church of Augusta team and I cannot wait to meet and cook for you all. Thank you for this opportunity.
