Dear Church,

People often ask me why I follow Jesus. Given my background and lack of growing up in the church, it’s a reasonable question. From the first moment that I decided to follow Jesus, my answer has been consistent. I have dedicated my life to following Jesus Christ because he is the one who has conquered death! I follow Jesus because of the Resurrection, and I know this is true for many of you as well. Our celebration of Easter is the fundamental grounding point of my identity, because if Jesus Christ is risen from the dead then we can trust that ultimately God will renew and restore all things. From our very beginning, Christians have been Easter people! As the great theologian Jurgen Moltmann said, “Christian faith is resurrection faith or it cannot be Christian faith any longer. The resurrection of Jesus was the historical origin of Christianity and must be the essential foundation of any truly Christian faith.”

Friends, that is why we make such a big deal out of Easter. As Paul says, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the first sign of what will eventually happen to the whole of creation. All will be made well. If that is true, then we need to celebrate!  So, that is exactly what we are planning to do over the next few days! In this edition of the Interpreter, I want you to know about all the amazing things that we have planned for this Easter. I hope you will make plans to be with us for each of these wonderful experiences, but especially for Easter Sunday morning.

Maundy Thursday– Tonight, we will worship in the Storey Chapel beginning at 6:00. This is an experience where we will reflect on the final days of Jesus’ life and consider the depths of his love for us as he went to the cross to show us the depths of God’s love! Dinner will be served at 5:00 in the Fellowship Hall.

Eggstravaganza– On Saturday morning from 9-11, our children’s ministry is pulling out all the stops to make sure that our kids have the best Easter egg hunt they could possibly imagine! We have over 10,000 eggs ready to be snatched up from kids of all ages! We will also have inflatables, crafts, and donuts for everyone to enjoy. This is a great event where you can invite your friends and introduce them to all that is happening at FBC Augusta!

Easter Sunday Worship– Finally, we will come together on the Great Day of Resurrection where we will celebrate and worship the Risen Christ. We expect both of these services to be packed, so make plans to arrive early! Our service times will be at their usual hours of 9:00 and 11:00.

I can’t wait to see everyone over the next few days! As always, I am so proud to be your pastor.

Grace and Peace,
