Fall Back…Tick, Tock

Just a friendly reminder to fall back this Saturday. Although we LOVE to see you here early preparing for worship and to serve, we say thank you each year by giving you an extra hour of rest about this time of year. So take an hour this Saturday night and we’ll see you here ready to go for the 9:00 a.m. hour well rested.

Tell Us Why You Are Thankful

Surf the internet and you will find countless articles on the benefits of gratitude. Even “science” argues for the benefits of being a thankful person? Our Bible is certainly full of admonitions, such as Colossians 4:2, that encourage and command us to have an attitude of thanksgiving. As Christians we have more reason than anyone to be grateful since God has done so much for us by bringing us to the place where we can see how glorious and wonderful He is. Dietrich Bonhoeffer believes gratitude is necessary to make our life rich. “In ordinary life we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.”Yet, such gratitude must be cultivated. Thanksgiving is a great reminder that we are to always be cultivating a grateful attitude toward God. Do you make Thanksgiving a part of your spiritual pursuit of a life of gratitude? If so, help us out by sharing your thoughts as to how your Thanksgiving traditions or celebratons have made you a more thankful person. I know we could all benefit by thinking through this issue together.

Update: Miguel in Madrid

We just received a newsletter update from Miguel Castillo, our missionary in Madrid, Spain. He has recently returned to Spain, and moved from Barcelona to Madrid, where by God’s grace he hopes to plant a life-giving, Christ-exalting church. This past summer when Miguel shared his heart with us, updating us as to where he saw the Lord leading him, he reminded us of the bleak situation in Spain—namely, 0.06% of the population is Evangelical Christian. And that is supposedly an optimistic figure. Our Community Group has decided to pray weekly for Miguel and I know he would love for you to join us in asking God to move mightily in Madrid to glorify the name of Christ through Miguel. For a full update, I would strongly encourage to take a minute to read Miguel’s latest newsletter (PDF). And then, don’t just set it aside. Rather, stop and pray earnestly that God would draw the people of Madrid to Himself in His great mercy.

Church Super Sleuths

The kids in the third and fourth grade class, taught by Roger & Reagan McNeil, are having so much fun each Sunday.  Yes, that’s what I said; fun at church!  They are studying a great curriculum called “In the Beginning…Jesus” and each Sunday the kids become magnifying glass-carrying detectives. The super sleuths are doing hands-on activities to uncover clues about Jesus.  They are strengthening their knowledge about Christ and having a great time doing it! Thanks to Roger and Reagan for their time spent training these detectives and thanks to the kids and their parents for coming each Sunday to uncover more truths.

Sunday morning I challenged you from Luke 16:1-11 to set aside some cash this week in an envelope marked Luke 16. Once the cash is in the envelope pray God will give you some wildly creative ways to use the money to “win friends” for eternity. If you weren’t here, please read Luke 16:9 or check out the sermon on the podcast section of our website.

Several people told me Sunday they had never heard that passage taught. I would love to hear your reaction to this fun little parable. I would also love to hear your creative ideas. Blog on.
