Got your Luke 16 envelope yet?

Sunday morning I challenged you from Luke 16:1-11 to set aside some cash this week in an envelope marked Luke 16. Once the cash is in the envelope pray God will give you some wildly creative ways to use the money to “win friends” for eternity. If you weren’t here, please read Luke 16:9 or check out the sermon on the podcast section of our website.

Several people told me Sunday they had never heard that passage taught. I would love to hear your reaction to this fun little parable. I would also love to hear your creative ideas. Blog on.

Roger and I decided to also challenge our kids to give creatively to the Lord’s work - not necessarily to friends, but to someone or some ministry that is ministering in the world in the name of Christ. We gave them each an amount of money and told them to report back to us on how they want to use that money. It’s been neat to see how they have responded. It was also a great discussion-starter on how Roger and I give of what God has given us, on our responsibility as Christians, and on how we can truly make a difference in others’ lives - meeting physical and spiritual needs. We also wanted them to experience the joy of giving to the Lord beyond giving to our local church - which hopefully we are all already doing!

We decided to set aside some money to give to one of our college students who is trying to influence the ASU football team. We put enough money in our Luke 16 envelope so that he could take out another player from the team and go to dinner for the purpose of sharing the Gospel. We just gave him our first envelope and are prayerfully awaiting to see how things went.
