How To Use This Web Site
Published by rfowler September 21st, 2007 in General. We’ve been at this new web site and blog for a month or so now, and you may be wondering “how do I effectively use the web site and the blog?” So let’s cover some tips and tricks so that you get the most out of this web site, while also helping to make the most out of this web siteThe blog is our newest feature, so we’ll tackle that first. A quick wikipedia search on blog renders this result:
A blog (a portmanteau of web log) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly… provide commentary or news on a particular subject such as food, politics, or local news; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.
Some Things to Keep In Mind
So now that you know a bit about what a blog is, here are some things to keep in mind while viewing our blog:
- Leaving comments is a great way to interact and get involved. For example, let us know how you were encouraged by a recent event by commenting on the blog entry for that event (more on how to do that below).
- You can easily stay up to date on the things that interest you. Each entry is categorized so you can find all the posts grouped under that same category.
- Got a favorite author/contributor? You can view all the posts by any of our authors with one simple click.
- Look for event-specific info. For example, you can find up-to-the-minute details about directions, times, who to contact for more information, and lots more.
- Think of it as an online “bulletin” that keeps you up on what’s going on here at Fellowship.
- Expect posts about events, ministries, prayer request, needs, praises, facility updates, testimonials, follow-up on specific sermons, and more.
Blog How To’s
Here’s a quick list letting you know specifically how to get around on the blog.
- Many of the posts one the home page are “teasers”—giving you just the initial introduction to what the post is about. To view the entire post, click on the title of the post or use the link at the end of the teaser that says “Continue reading ….” This lets us show you more on the home page of the blog. And it also lets you quickly scan down through the page and choose what interests you.
- Click on a category to see all posts that belong to the same category. You’ll find the category listed under the title for each post. It’s located after the date (i.e. Published by rfowler on September 10th, 2007 in Announcements).
- Click on the author to see all posts published by the same author. You’ll find the author listed under the title for each post. (i.e. Published by rfowler on September 10th, 2007 in Announcements).
- See how many comments have been added to a given post. You’ll find the number of comments listed under the title for each post. (i.e. 2 Comments. Published by rfowler on September 10th, 2007 in Announcements).
- View comments by clicking on the comments link listed under the title for each post.
- Register to leave your own comments. Use the “Register” button located to the right of the main navigation at the top of the page (under “Fellowship Bible Church” in the top graphic).
- Comment on any post, or interact with someone else’s comment. After registering, click on the title of a post or on the comments link listed under the title for each post. Either of these steps will take you to a page where you can view the entire post and leave a comment related to the post or a previous comment. All comments must be approved, and will be added immediately following approval.
- Subscribe to an RSS-feed of all blog posts to quickly scan new posts via an RSS reader. Just click on the “RSS-Feed Posts” link under the “Subscribe” heading in the far right column. (For more on RSS feeders, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rss_reader).
- Subscribe to an RSS-feed of all the comments added to any posts to quickly scan new comments via an RSS reader. Just click on the “RSS-Feed Comments” link under the “Subscribe” heading in the far right column.
- Quickly view the Latest posts by scanning the list under the “Later” heading in the first gray column on the right (below Current Series, Welcome and Our Mission). Click on the Title to jump directly to that blog post.
- Easily move from one post to the next (either forwards or backwards). If you click the Title of a post or use the “Continue reading…” link from the home page of the blog, you’ll be directed to a page with the full blog post. Just above the post title, on the left hand side of the page will be a link to the blog post after (chronologically) the one you’re currently reading. Likewise, on the right hand side opposite of that will be a link to the blog post before the one you’re currently reading.
- Return to the home page of the blog at any time by clicking on the “Blog” link in the main menu at the top.
Using the “Rest” of the Web Site
The remainder of the web site outside of the blog functions much like a traditional web site. The information contained there is primarily static and directed to users who are interested in learning more about Fellowship.I hope that helps you get the most out our web site. And let me encourage to you to make it better with your own comments and interaction.
